IDseek® OmniSTR™: A Revolutionary Breakthrough in Forensic DNA Analysis

Successful Validation in Forensic DNA Analysis

We are pleased to share the publication by Kristiaan van der Gaag from the Netherlands Forensic Institute in the journal Forensic Science International: Genetics: “Validation of the IDseek® OmniSTR™ global kit for autosomal STR profiling.”

This study highlights the Reverse Complement PCR (RC-PCR) method as an improved tool for routine massively parallel sequencing (MPS) of short tandem repeats (STRs).

Key points:
  • The performance of OmniSTR™ with minimal amounts of DNA surpasses current MPS and CE methods;
  • Sequence variations in SE33 result in significantly more variants compared to length variations;
  • OmniSTR™'s tolerance to inhibitors such as humic and tannic acid is comparable to PPF6C, but improved for ethanol (EtOH);
  • Automated analysis of reference samples achieves 99.94 % accuracy for 96.7 % of detected markers;
  • Minor alleles down to 1.5 % relative to the dominant can be detected in mixtures with OmniSTR™.
